Builder Feature: Carolina Log Center & Carolina Diversified Builders

After buying and building his family’s log cabin, Bill Seymour decided in 1999 to change careers. He formed Carolina Log Center and Carolina Diversified Builders to offer high performance homes in the Carolinas and beyond. With his son Daren and Daren’s wife Missy Schulz joining the family business, they began building energy efficient log and timber frame homes for home buyers.

They soon had a loyal following of buyers and subcontractors singing their praises, becoming one of the most prolific log and timber frame builders in the region.

“Bill is a fantastic builder who takes great pride in providing the best product for his clients,” says Joseph Gilmore, Owner of Gilmore Consulting Services. “The individuals that are clients of Bill’s quickly find they have made a friend that will always be there to meet their needs and will produce a finished home that is truely green, energy efficient and low maintenance.”

The Locascios family, in front of their new log home, says they heartily recommend Carolina Log Center for their craftsmanship, quality, speed and efficiency.

The Locascios family recently built a log home in Rumbling Bald Spa and Resort at Lake Lure, NC. “We made the choice to contract with Carolina Log Center of Gilbert, SC, and are more than thrilled with the final product,” the Locasios say.

“The home turned out more beautiful than we could have ever imagined. The attention to detail is amazing and they enhanced the plans along the way with any extra ideas and materials they could utilize in the design elements. Their eye for ‘uniqueness’ set them apart. There are several handmade designs throughout the house that came from the land we built on,” the Locasios say.

“This family is one of the most genuine you will ever meet,” the Locasios say. “You feel like a friend from the moment you meet each of them. They kept us up-to-date with everything along the way, made tremendous suggestions and responded quickly to any requests we made.”

“The usual ‘bumps in the road’ were handled with concern in our best interest. Their honesty and integrity makes the experience a true partnership. We certainly would strongly recommend Carolina Log Center and the Seymour family, without hesitation, to anyone out there looking for a pleasant and thorough construction experience.”

Locally Sourced But Nationally Recognized

Both Bill Seymour and Missy Schultz have earned their Certified Green Professional designation from the National Association of Home Builders. First Certified Green Log Home in Columbia, SC

When Bud and Louise Foster wanted to build a log home in South Carolina, they knew they wanted their dream home to be eco-friendly. They turned to Bill and Kathy Seymour and their two sons, William and Daren, to make it happen.

“Log homes are naturally energy efficient simply due to the building materials and construction techniques,” says Bill Seymour. “We are very happy to have the first locally and nationally certified green home in these programs.”

The Fosters’ home became the first home to be certified green by the Build Green Greater Columbia program. Additionally, the home is ENERGY STAR Certified and is a certified Gold level green home in the National Green Building Certification Program administered by the National Association of Home Builders Research Center.

The 1,983-sq.ft. home passed the battery of tests with minimal modifications to the standard Katahdin log home package. For certification, the builder works with a certifying agent or third party certification company to ensure that each element of the home employs green practices. The process begins with the design, is followed throughout construction and is completed with a final inspection and blower door test to ensure minimal air infiltration.

The Build Green Greater Columbia program is administered by the Green Building Council of Greater Columbia, which is affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders’ green building program. Homes in the program are third-party verified to ensure that they meet the criteria as outlined. There are three levels of certification in the Build Green Greater Columbia program: Bronze, Silver and Gold. The home built by Carolina Log Center and Carolina Diversified Builders is certified at the highest level – Gold.
